Rivers
Year 7 ποΈ Physical Geography River features, processes of erosion, transportation, and deposition.
ποΈ Rivers and Their Processes
Rivers shape the land through erosion, transportation, and deposition.
Erosion Types
Hydraulic action (force of water), abrasion (material scraping), attrition (particles wearing each other down), solution (dissolving rock).
Transportation
Traction (rolling), saltation (bouncing), suspension (carried in water), solution (dissolved).
Upper Course
Steep gradient, fast flow, V-shaped valleys, waterfalls, potholes, interlocking spurs.
Lower Course
Gentle gradient, slow flow, meanders, oxbow lakes, floodplains, deltas.
Velocity β gradient β faster flow = more erosion. Slower flow = deposition.
