π What is Globalisation?
Globalisation is the growing interdependence of countries through increased flows of goods, money, people, and information.
Causes
Improved transport (container ships, aviation), telecommunications (internet), free trade agreements, TNCs, global media.
TNCs
Transnational Corporations operate in multiple countries. e.g. Apple (designs in USA, manufactures in China, sells globally).
Benefits
Economic growth, reduced poverty in some regions, cultural exchange, cheaper goods, technology transfer.
Drawbacks
Increased inequality, exploitation of workers in LEDCs, environmental damage, loss of local culture, financial instability.
